The Bible reading plan I’m currently doing has me going through the Psalms and Proverbs in 31 days. Tonight, one of the six chapters I read was Psalm 107.
Verses 8 and 9 say, “Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man! For he satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul he fills with good things.”
I don’t normally pray for Jahar while I read the Bible, but as I read those verses, I felt led to pray that God would cause him to hunger and thirst for something more.
And then I scrolled down and saw these verses…
Some sat in darkness and in the shadow of death,
prisoners in affliction and in irons,
for they had rebelled against the words of God,
and spurned the counsel of the Most High.
So he bowed their hearts down with hard labor;
they fell down, with none to help.
Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble,
and he delivered them from their distress.
He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death,
and burst their bonds apart.
Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love,
for his wondrous works to the children of man! (vv. 10-15)
That could just be coincidence, but I feel like God was telling me something. Jahar is in a dark, dark place, but I believe he will one day cry out to Jesus, who will save him and set him free from the chains upon his soul. Thank God for His steadfast love.
Let us pray that Jahar would long for something more and that he would cry out to the One who stands ready to rescue him.
