A birthday prayer

Father, I thank You that Jahar is able to celebrate another birthday. Thank You that he’s now celebrated two birthdays that he never should’ve been able to. I cannot thank You enough for sparing Jahar’s life that night on the boat because it means there is still hope for him—still so much hope because you are a God who radically changes hearts and lives. May the second chance You’ve given him out of Your grace and mercy not be in vain.

I imagine he feels terribly alone in that cell with no human interaction besides his family and lawyers. Oh God, send forth Your love into that silence and isolation. Fill up his cell with Your presence. May he be struck with the feeling that someone is right there with him and loves him, and that it’s not Allah—it’s You, the One True God, the Triune God.

There’s nothing more I want to do for him on his birthday than pour out the love of Christ upon him and share the Gospel with him, but I can’t. The SAMs mean that none of Your people are able to do that for him anymore. There are inpenetrable walls standing in the way. But no walls can keep my God out! Lord Jesus, please come to him in a dream or a vision and reveal Yourself to him. May he see who You are and his need for You. Lord God, would You also create within his heart a desire to open a Bible for whatever reason, whether it’s in response to a dream, because of a feeling of emptiness left by Islam, or even out of a desire to prove it wrong or mock it. There is great power in Your Word, and if he would only open it, I have full confidence that You could use it to open his eyes and draw him to the cross.

God, I ask that You would perform a miracle in Jahar’s heart or life today for his birthday—a miracle that brings him one step closer to the forgiveness he desperately needs through the blood of Jesus.

It is my dream that Jahar’s 22nd birthday would be his first celebrated with a faith in Jesus Christ. But whether that happens or whether it takes years or decades for him to come to You, I trust You, Lord. Please do whatever it takes that Jahar would one day become my beloved brother in Christ.

I pray this all in the precious name of Jesus, the One who is mighty to save anyone no matter what they’ve done or how deep they are into serving another god. Amen.
